Background

In 1984, the first committee was formed to honour a great musician, Mr. Maurice Beaulieu, who was known as the «King of the Banjo».

This committee was composed of Gilles Guerrette, Antoine Bélanger, J. Earl Shaw,  Marilyn Pelletier, Thomas Shaw, Edgar Cyr, Guildo Haché, Léopold Ouellet, Murillo Soucy, Jean Pelletier, Claude Lord, Lucien Ouellet and Richard Shaw. The first member was inducted to the Edmundston Arts Hall of Fame on August 1st 1984 during the Foire Brayonne.

Following Mr. Beaulieu’s induction, several years went by when no new inductees were chosen.  However, in 2003, following the development of Edmunston’s cultural policy and because there was pressure from the population to see this form of recognition continued, the City Council created a committee whose task was to develop a first draft for a prospective induction process.  This committee was composed of Jean-Claude D’Amours, Gérald Allain, Gaston Thériault, Arthur Cyr, Vicky Lentz, Stéphane Raymond, Lynne Beaulieu-Picard.

The first Board of Governors of Edmundston Arts Hall of Fame was elected on July 11, 2005.
